Steve and Mary Cannon met in high school in South San Jose. Both worked in high tech after college, with Mary going on to earn a master’s degree in clinical psychology and becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice. Steve, who still works in tech, is also a jazz musician, a practice he picked up since college. The couple prides themselves on the stable home they have created for their family. 

Self-described hard workers and long-term planners, Steve and Mary believe in investing in themselves from both a health standpoint and a financial standpoint. They also believe in strong multigenerational relationships, such as the one they established just after they started working with Harris Private Wealth’s Jim Glass in the early 1990s. Jim had been Steve’s parents’ financial advisor and a family friend. He remembers his parents turning to Jim when they began to focus on the costs of Steve’s education and realized they needed help. 

In the years since, Steve and Mary brought Evan Harris into the financial family fold, and he has been pivotal in helping Mary manage and simplify her dad’s complex and overwhelming estate. The Harris Private Wealth team also jumped in to help Steve manage a late-career job situation — and an attitude shift. As a 56-year-old with two kids in college, he was panicked about the change, but Evan and Jim provided reassurance and relief backed by data. Now, the Cannons are planning for retirement in a relaxed way, grateful to have people they fully trust managing their finances for the short and long terms.
